Painted en plein air near the Colorado–Wyoming border, this scene captures the last traces of winter clinging to a drift fence against the valley’s thawing ground. The contrast of seasons struck me—the quiet pull between what remains and what’s coming. Location doesn’t matter so much; the feeling of being a little “adrift” belongs to us all.
