Bison Portrait focuses closely on the massive structure and unmistakable character of one of the West’s most enduring animals. I was drawn to the contrast between the bison’s tremendous physical power and the calm, almost ancient quality of its expression. The heavy head, dense coat, and subtle variations within the dark fur create a sense of weight and solidity, while the direct gaze gives the portrait its quiet intensity. By keeping the composition close and uncluttered, I wanted the animal itself to command the space—strong, grounded, and completely present.
